New Elementary Namibia (New Elementary) is a Non-Governmental Organization that endeavours to improve the quality of Early Childhood Education in the vulnerable communities of Namibia. The object of this initiative is to create a stimulating, conducive and adequate learning environment that supports the child's cognitive development and allows for their creativity and imagination to thrive. Founded in 2016 by Helena Kandjumbwa, who after having worked as a volunteer teacher at children centres in the informal settlements of Windhoek and having being directly exposed to the realities of poverty and its scarring effects on the child's educational development, concluded that there are a plethora of both unmet and under-met educational and developmental needs that require urgent intervention. New Elementary was hence established to primarily reconstruct schools that fail to meet the national standards for Early Childhood Development centres, such as those made of corrugated iron ("shack classrooms'') or similar, into concrete buildings that provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
