Norwegian Railway Academy

Jernbaneverket established the Norwegian Railway Academy in 2005 at the request of the Ministry of Transport and Communication. The school is a center for rail education and serves the entire Norwegian railway sector, offering a wide range of courses on all levels, from apprentice to advanced, in addition to basic training for train drivers, traffic controllers and dispatchers. The school has a permanent staff of nearly 50, but due to the wide range of courses, the school is also required to hire in a significant number of instructors. The main campus is at Jernkroken, located between the two railway stops Grorud and Haugenstua on the local line between Oslo and Lillestrøm. It is also easily accessible by buss. In addition, the school offers a number of courses at other locations depending on the course, number of participants and physical training facilities required. The main campus is a modern facility with a staffed reception and service center, class rooms, smaller rooms for workshops, an auditorium, a lunch cafeteria and technical facilities. Located at the main campus is also the school's state of the art simulator center. The training facility is one of its kind in Europe because it has two types of simulators: one for train drivers and one for traffic controllers, where each simulator can be operated separately or together in the same scenario.
