简介 | Guernsey Wooden Spoon was founded in 2001. Through various Fundraising Events, Dinners, 6 Nations Events, Golf Days, and Challenges a fantastic amount of money has been raised and given to very worthy causes. Every Penny we raise from our events stays in Guernsey. All of the projects we support have significant importance to those we give the funds too. However, there are some that have had a wider social impact and a real legacy project. 3 projects we consider as our legacy projects. Le Murier School climbing wall we donated 85k, each year they organise a challenge called the Everest Challenge. Teams raise sponsorship and climb the wall at the school for an hour each, the total miles climbed is 8848 the height of Everest. The school has an educational programme to provide all of the students with as many residential experiences as practically possible to gain the skills to become valued members of our community. 80 to 100 people take part each year raising approx, 20k So our gift keeps giving. Guernsey Sailing Trust was established in 1988 to enable local children from all walks of life to experience and enjoy the fun and challenges involved with sailing, as well as to make the sport accessible to all. Guernsey Wooden Spoon has supported the Trust with a number of vessels and equipment. The most special being a Sailability boat. "Invictus" is a boat that people with limited movement can go out and sail as the boat operates by levers and has special seating. The legacy of this project is not just the boat itself but that Guernsey Harbours installed a special hoist on the cruise liner pontoon, this means that our harbour is fully accessible to any disabled sailor or visitor. Beach Wheelchair Scheme, Wooden Spoon has achieved this exciting project., making beaches accessible. Pembroke is equipped with 3 special beach wheelchairs in situ at each at the beach. The total cost c19k this includes its housing/hut. The feedback has been amazing. |
