Hello, I'm Dr. Matt Barton, author, professor, and YouTube content creator with a passion for recording and preserving the history of my favorite thing in the world: Computer and Video games! Along with my trusty Talent and Promotions Producer Susan Manley we aim to give you a peek inside the heads of video game development legends.
My YouTube show, Matt Chat, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of videogames. These games are an indispensable part of our culture, and great videogame developers are just as exciting and important to me as great film directors and book authors. Video and Computer games are cultural and technical masterpieces of our time, worthy of respect and preservation. Join my quest to find where our favorite games and platforms came from, and meet the brilliant people who built this industry--from bedrooms to boardrooms.
I feature in-depth reviews of classic videogames and interviews with famous developers such as John Romero, Chris Avellone, Tim Cain, Richard "Lord British" Garriott, and Rebecca Heineman. I'm also an author of several books on the subject and teach courses on games here at St. Cloud State University. Although I focus mostly on role-playing games--my personal favorite--I also chat with many other types of developers, including adventure, strategies, sports, puzzles, arcades, and even Simon and Tetris!
I work hard at being factually correct and well-informed about the games and developers I have on the show. We are inclusive on the show and respectful of our interviewies and audience. This show takes games seriously and make it so that gamers of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy. There's no clickbait, drama, divisiveness, or foul language here--just a passion for videogame history and lore.
