Launched in 1996, Simmonds Architecture Inc. is recognized as one of Ottawa's leading practitioners of contemporary architecture. Led by Principal, Chris Simmonds, our team of architects, designers and technologists works with clients in a streamlined approach through all phases of a project. Our first commitment is to design excellence. This has led to a diverse portfolio of award-winning projects including: single-family homes and cottages; multi-residential and mixed use buildings; commercial and public spaces; and cultural institutions. We integrate innovation and creativity, conceiving modern designs that recognize the needs of both the client and the community. Christopher Simmonds Architect has a reputation for maintaining an open dialogue with our clients, listening closely to their needs and providing solutions that exceed expectations. We accomplish this by beginning with the essential elements of each project — the client's goals, the site, and the environment — and using those elements to guide the process. Our approach to modern residential and commercial design includes a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Building materials and systems are chosen with environmental sustainability as a guiding principle. Over the years our firm has won Housing Design Awards for best "Green" custom home numerous times. Christopher Simmonds Architect designed the first LEED Gold certified building in Ottawa – the Rideau Valley Conservation Centre. In 2008 Chris Simmonds was personally awarded a Canada Green Building Council Leadership Award for "fostering sustainable design, construction, and management in buildings in the national capital regional of Canada."
