According to official sources, DPL's distribution and transmission departments would be transferred to the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd and the West Bengal Electricity Transmission Company Ltd. With a total capacity of 660 MW, the state-owned DPL is one of the most important industrial units in the Durgapur-Asansol belt. The company has been dependent on power generation for revenue after its coke-oven unit stopped operations last year.
