简介 | The Kembé Foundation is an official Erasmus University student- and alumni organisation. Our mission is to fight poverty through social entrepreneurship. To accomplish this Kembé aims to empower the poor to improve their livelihoods by initiating financially viable businesses in developing countries. By doing so, local communities can become self-sustaining and work their way out of poverty. We believe the best tools to eliminate poverty are the provision of knowledge and the creation of sustainable jobs. Kembé adheres to a 0% overhead policy and guarantees transparency towards its supporters. A fundamental principle for each project is the alliance with a reliable local partner. In the long run, the Kembé Foundation and the local partner remain involved in the realised projects to ensure social impact, sustainability and further growth. Kembé's social entrepreneurial projects aim to improve the economic fundamentals for communities by offering: job creation, food supply, education and empowerment of minorities. Since 2010 the Kembé Foundation has initiated two successful projects: a chicken farm in Haiti with 1.500 hens, 40 indirect- and five direct jobs, and a dairy farm in India with six cows, five jobs and an educational hub for neighbouring farmers. Currently, Kembé's is realising its third project called Hakika and located in Dodoma, Tanzania. The Hakika project will develop the entire sunflower oil value chain and provide farmers the opportunity to escape poverty. The goals of the project are threefold: • Empower up to 100 smallholder farmers to improve their livelihoods • Create 5 direct jobs at the sunflower oil facility • Create a sustainable income generating activity for Sharing Worlds Tanzania Kembé is a Haitian Creole expression used to cheer somebody up who finds himself in a difficult situation: "Stay strong, don't give up"! It is the essence of what Kembé stands for and what we would like to provide with our social businesses. |
