Northern Light Mercy Hospital is an acute care hospital in Portland, Maine with a total of 230 inpatient beds. All rooms are 100 percent private. Private rooms enhance a speedy recovery and a more restful, less stressful stay for our patients. Beyond our doors, you'll find the latest medical technology, used by a team of highly skilled doctors, nurses, physician assistants, therapists, and support staff. Alongside all of this technology, you'll find care that recognizes each patient – body, mind, and spirit. Established in 1918 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland and the Sisters of Mercy, Northern Light Mercy Hospital's mission has always been to carry out the healing work of Christ by providing compassionate, accessible, clinically excellent healthcare, especially to the poor and disadvantaged. We advocate for a society in which all can realize their full potential and achieve the common good. We give priority to those that society ignores. Our community focus amounts to nearly $12 million in benefits annually. These benefits range from unreimbursed and pro-bono medical services to community education and prevention outreach.
