Akre is a natural capital solutions company, whose mission is to help organisations help the planet. We believe that business and nature are not mutually exclusive and that a better economic system, one that creates value and enhances nature simultaneously, is possible. We empower organisations to act on their desire to positively impact the planet by designing bespoke nature-based strategies, delivering and managing ecological restoration plans for communities, landowners, funds and investors. To overcome the challenges surrounding tree supply and seed provenance, we have built the world's first verified carbon-negative tree nursery. We also maintain an offset exchange platform that connects businesses to nature-based projects. The triple threat of climate change, biodiversity loss and food security results from an imbalance between the economy and the planet. We buy things that are useful to us but they can, and do, have a negative impact on our global ecological system. As we get better at measuring these impacts, markets and mechanisms form allowing us to redress them. By framing these issues as inefficiencies in a complex system we can engage in solutions that fuel their recovery and, eventually, their enhancement. Up until now, responsibly valuing ecosystem services and our impact has been too difficult to measure. through the lens of complex systems thinking we have the potential to reverse the trajectory we are on.
