MAYA (Movement For Alternatives And Youth Awareness)

MAYA (Movement for Alternatives and Youth Awareness) is a Karnataka-based non-governmental organization (NGO) worked in the field of education and livelihood since two decades. The education and livelihood initiatives have become independent entities known as Prajayatna, Labournet and Maya Organic. MAYA Health is the 4th initiative of MAYA. Vision: "Empowering individuals from rural and semi urban communities to take ownership of their health by enabling preventive health care and promoting overall well-being" Mission: "To build a sustainable health ecosystem of micro entrepreneurs who focus on providing preventive and promotive health care services that is affordable to the community" MAYA Health Journey: MAYA embarked on strengthening the last mile connect of the health care delivery system with the focus on preventive and promotive health through developing a cadre a village level Health Entrepreneurs (HE) in 2015 in Channapatna taluk in Ramanagara district, Karnataka. Based on the learning from the piloting experience, the program is being scaled in two other taluks – Ramanagara and Kanakpura. Currently there are 80 HEs operating in 3 taluks covering a population of about 3,00,000. Under this project another 20 HEs will be added. Health Entrepreneurs who are selected from the local communities with basic education qualification and an interest to work in the field of Health care are chosen and trained. Also they are technology enabled who offer screening services for diabetes, hypertension and anemia, provide regular monitoring and counselling services for these conditions for an affordable cost at their doorsteps. Besides this they offer certain health care products to their clients.
