North Channel Wind

Floating wind turbines: the next generation of renewables technologies takes Northern Ireland closer to self-sufficiency. North Channel Wind is a prospective floating offshore wind farm in the North Channel of the Irish Sea, 9-25km from the eastern coast of Northern Ireland. The project represents one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in Northern Ireland this decade and would be the largest renewable energy generator in Northern Ireland. Our Vision With the potential to generate enough locally produced electricity to power the equivalent of almost 500,000 homes, North Channel Wind 1 and 2 will support the delivery of Northern Ireland's renewable energy targets and transition to a net zero carbon economy. It will help to reduce Northern Ireland's reliance on imported energy and improve security of supply. The project, which will be built over 2 phases (North Channel 1 & 2), will be located between 9 and 25 km from shore in approximately 120m of water depth. The North Channel Wind project is in the early stage of development. This gives us the opportunity to consult with local communities and wider stakeholders during the design stage in order to develop the most suitable and appropriate proposals possible. In this way we are confident that the project can harness the immense power of offshore wind whilst achieving a balance in terms of marine use, coastlines and seascape. We are currently carrying out studies to characterise and optimise the site. The size and layout of the project will evolve as the consultation and environmental assessment process progresses.
