Working to ensure the housing needs in such a large and varied state is no simple task, and California's housing-affordability challenges are well-documented. The team at HCD takes these housing-affordability challenges seriously, to ensure Californians from all walks of life have safe, stable, and affordable places to call home, and broke down silos to engage in housing-related activities that benefit other issues Californians care about—from clean air and transportation to the general health and safety of all Californians. HCD remains focused on what works, while finding new opportunities to make the most efficient and most effective use of the public's investment in programs that: • Increase the housing supply, keeping roofs over the heads of Californians. • Lift up neighborhoods by providing parks, sidewalks, bike paths, and other infrastructure necessary for healthy communities. • Protect the health and safety of Californians through building code enforcement and other inspection programs. • Connect people to the opportunities they need to live successful lives
