Our work at the Center for Family Research at the University of Georgia is guided by a concern for the difficulties faced by African American families living in the rural South. In many of these communities, the lack of resources for health care and employment can make it especially difficult to raise children. By creating strong partnerships with community members at every level of our work, we conduct research about what makes African American families strong – and then use the answers to develop family-based programs to make them even stronger.
