In lieu of rent, the owner asked Banker to take care of the advertising for the store. The ads Banker created worked so well that the furniture company prospered in the motor city. Word of Banker's advertising success quickly got the attention of other retail store owners. Soon, Banker stopped his accounting services, took a partner and focused solely on advertising — quickly growing the firm to a national operation.
