The Motivational Sports Coach Programme

An onlline sports coach development programme and learning community that puts psychology in sports coaching practice. What does this mean? If you are a sports coach, we offer a learning programme, based on psychology, that will help you do develop your coaching practice. Specifically this will involve helping you to: - Explore, reflect on and develop your values and coaching style; - Better support the mental performance of your athletes; - Develop more productive relationships with athletes and other stakeholders; and - Build a more engaging, motivating team environment. You will go through the programme as a cohort of coaches from a range of sports and benefit from peer learning as well as input from the lead tutors, which will be curated from academic research and applied practitioners. The 'glue' that will bind the programme together is Reversal Theory (Apter), a framework that maps the dynamic relationship between motivation and emotion. Ideally suited to the fast-moving sports environment, Reversal Theory can be used to develop self-awareness and self-management skills, better understand and support performers mental states, understand and improve relationships and team environments. We are currently designing the programme with the aim of launching a pilot by summer 2020.
