Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS)

The August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute (IDIBAPS) is a R&D Consortium based in Barcelona linked to the Clínic Hospital of Barcelona. It's a CERCA center The fundamental mission of IDIBAPS is to combine clinical research of proven quality with high-level basic research. It can thereby achieve a more effective transfer of scientific advances in the prevention and treatment of the most common health problems. Many of the IDIBAPS scientific staff comes from its constituent institutions: Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, the University of Barcelona School of Medicine, the CSIC's Barcelona Biomedical Research Institute and ICREA Foundation. The current number of researchers working in IDIBAPS is approximately 480, most of them having complementary basic and clinical profiles. IDIBAPS performs its research mainly in five areas: • Biological aggression and response mechanisms • Respiratory, cardiovascular and renal pathobiology and bioengineering • Liver, digestive system and metabolism • Clinical and experimental neuroscience • Oncology and haematology Currently IDIBAPS has more than 500 competitive projects, amongst which 84 are from EU calls and 22 from other international funding agencies. IDIBAPS is the leading Spanish research institute raising H2020 funds. Researchers at IDIBAPS have created several companies in the last 10 years and participate in 48 patent families. All the facts and figures indicate that IDIBAPS is the leading biomedical research institute in Spain.
