The Biotechnology Institute is an entity belonging to the subsystem University Scientific Research (SIC), which conducts research for academic excellence for the development of modern biotechnology, generating knowledge in various fields and disciplines such as cellular engineering, developmental biology, structural biology, physiology, microbiology and molecular medicine, as well as those related to biocatalysis, bio-processes and plant molecular biology. It also participates actively in the formation of specialized human resources, mainly through its masters and doctoral program in Biochemical Sciences
