CARGOMARINE CORPORATION's roots can be traced back to the beginnings of REYES & LIM COMPANY, INC. (RLC). RLC is a Philippine corporation founded in 1960 by Jose M. Reyes and Bienvenido L. Lim who graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The Company started as ship operators, managers, ship building consultants, shipbrokers and ship agents for over 50 years. The early years were devoted to naval architecture, marine engineering and ocean transport system economies. Its business activity ranged from owning LPG and LAG tankers to management of ocean vessels such as, cape-size bulk carriers in the Philippines. The first ship owned by RLC was the American built dry cargo steamer Timber Coast acquired in 1967. In 1968, RLC commissioned the clean product tanker Alkene chartered to MOBIL trading U.S. Pacific Trust Territories. This was followed by the new building LPG Tanker Alkene designed and built by RLC on coa to ESSO. The vessel hereafter served MOBIL, CALTEX & PETRON. In 1975, RLC established its fully-owned subsidiary, CARGOMARINE CORPORATION, as owner of LPG carriers fully managed by RLC. CARGOMARINE acquired initially the LPG tankers Alkene, Butane and Banak followed by the LPG carrier Biya which started on a coa to Petron in 1990. The LPG carrier Bisugo started a period charter to SHELL in 1994. In 1999, the company launched its 3,500 cbm new-building, the LPG carrier Bangos that started a period charter to SHELL on the same year. The LPG Carrier Bisugo together with LPG tankers Bacalaw and Banak were re-chartered to PETRON since 2004 and 2006. Under a new ownership and management control in November 2008 represented by Mr. Oscar B. Saavedra, CARGOMARINE CORPORATION assumed the full ship owning and ship management from RLC. The Bisugo, Bacalaw and Banak were continuously chartered by PETRON until they were eventually sold to SMCSL in 2006. In February 2012 & May 2012, Cargomarine Corp. took over the management of Phil National Lines Inc. (PNL) owned oil tankers Phil Cebu, Phil Mindanao, Phil Visayas, Phil Bacolod & M/T Bariles and Tugs Phil Bataan, Phil Laguna, Phil Bohol, Phil Leyte, Phil Samar. Later, additional vessels, tugs, cranes barges own by affiliate PNL and Fastguys Logistics Corp. (FLC) were included in the management, namely M/T Modesto, D/V Tamban, D/B Kanduli, C/B Buaya, C/B Pating, C/B Barracuda, M/T FS2, M/T Espada, M/T Balyena and others. CMC was issued a Document of Compliance (ISM) by the Maritime Industry Authority in compliance with MARINA MC 143 IMO's International Safety Management Code. The Company has been certified ISO 9001:2008 by SGS in June 2015 and transition to ISO 9001:2015 by SGS in February 2018.
