Carencro Catholic School

Carencro Catholic School is the result of the dreams and dedication of a Canadian priest, Father A.N Laforet and Saint Katharine Drexel. Father Laforet, pastor of St. Peter's Church in Carencro brought the Sisters of the Order of Mount Carmel to Carencro in 1897 to open St. Ann's Convent School. The school and sisters served the community for over half a century. In 1925, St. Katharine Drexel opened St. Elizabeth for the Black and Native American children of the area, on land donated by Mr. Sosthene Arceneaux. The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament staffed the school, which was later moved to the property of Our Lady of Assumption Church, run by the Holy Ghost Fathers. The school was known as Our Lady of the Assumption School and provided academic and religious opportunity for hundreds of children, the majority of whom worked in the fields to help support their families. In 1963 the pastor of St. Peter's Church, Father A.M. Wassler, built St. Pierre School. In 1971 St. Pierre School and Our Lady of Assumption merged to what is now Carencro Catholic School. Today, the school is home to students ranging in grades PreK (3) – 8th. As the Body of Christ is present in the chapel at the center of campus, so is Christ at the center of study at Carencro Catholic School. Within a loving family atmosphere, students encounter a unique religious curriculum following the teachings reflected in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
