The IWI-HSG exists since 1989 and is run as an independent entity. It has personnel and financial ties with the University of St.Gallen. It is predominantly self-financed from private research contracts. The postgraduate Executive Master of Business Engineering (EMBE HSG) is affiliated to the IWI-HSG, but is also run independently. The management of the IWI-HSG consists of Professors Back, Brenner (Chair), Jung, Leimeister and Winter. The Executive Committee consists of high-ranking company representatives and professors of the university. It monitors the content and financial development of the IWI-HSG. The operational management is in the hands of a managing director. As a link to business practice, the Research Council of the IWI-HSG influences the scientific guidelines and the orientation of the research contents of the IWI-HSG.
